Private Reindeer Herder Experience
Beyond the roads. Into the wild.
Not one place. A whole landscape.
For nearly 600 years, the Vasara family has lived with reindeer in the far north.
But not in one place.
Long before roads, snowmobiles and permanent homes, life followed the herd.
The reindeer followed the seasons. Families followed the reindeer.
Summer brought people north towards the Arctic coast. Winter brought them back inland. The landscape was home, but home was never just one place.
Today’s Reindeer Ranch stands on winter grazing land. One place in a much larger landscape that has shaped life here for generations.
Much has changed. The herd still moves with the seasons.
And someone still has to follow.

Fresh tracks. New questions.
Much has changed over the centuries. The work continues.
The herd still moves with the seasons. And someone still has to follow.
Every day begins in the same way: by heading out into the fells to see what has happened since yesterday.
Fresh tracks in the snow. Old tracks disappearing beneath new snow.
Signs of where the herd has been. And signs of where it may be now.
Some days the herd is nearby. Some days it is far away.
The reindeer decide where they go.
We follow.
